Swansea Bay University Health Faculty Team for Medical Education
Swansea Bay UHB has a local Faculty Team that works with trainers and trainees alongside the medical education managers, in partnership with HEIW, to deliver postgraduate education of the highest quality. Our team mission is to “Inspire Excellence in Medical Education; Care for each other; Work together; Always improve.”
Career Planning and Resources
Local information and support regarding career planning can be obtained from your educational supervisor, college tutor and medical education teams. In addition, support is available from speciality-specific training programme directors, Royal College tutors and heads of school. All of which is signposted through the medical education team.
SAS Education
The professional development of SAS doctors in Swansea Bay UHB is led by the SAS tutor appointed by HEIW to the health board. The health board also has an SAS advocate who reviews ways to improve engagement and support for our SAS doctors.
For those joining as a consultant, part of your induction programme will involve placement onto a bespoke consultant development programme, which will provide you with additional/enhanced skills for being a leader and manager.

Our Education Centres are located across the health board providing postgraduate, undergraduate, dental and general entry medicine training for staff, as well as providing facilities for all areas of multidisciplinary education including nursing and corporate training. Each centre is managed by a dedicated medical education team who ensure a high standard of medical and dental education is provided across Swansea Bay UHB. Each team is on hand to support colleagues to ensure they receive a positive experience during their time within the health board.
Each centre is equipped with state-of-the-art audio visual equipment and video conferencing facilities, enabling us to provide the best quality education and training to students and staff.

Clinical and Dental Skills Labs
Dedicated clinical skills labs for postgraduate and undergraduate teaching, and state-of-the-art dental skills labs are available in the education centre, Morriston Hospital.
Swansea Bay UHB has a faculty of lecturers from each specialty who are assisted by clinical teachers. They support postgraduate and undergraduate teaching sessions alongside the regular programmes of teaching for both training and senior medical staff.
The health board supports a virtual corporate induction programme for trainees in addition to face-to-face departmental inductions delivered on the first day of the new rotation in February and August.
Swansea Bay UHB accommodates regular directorate teaching, weekly medical and dental teaching across sites, and weekly medical school teaching.
