Locum consultant

The locum consultant role is predominantly for covering short-term vacancies within the service. According to Royal College Guidance, locum consultant contracts should be no longer than 12 months in total – six months initially, and then reviewed and extended a further six months, if required. To become a locum consultant, you will have significant experience in the speciality.

There is no requirement to appear on the GMC’s Specialist Register (CCT/CESR) as the regulations which apply to a substantive post do not apply to locum posts.
