Psychology & Psychological Therapies at SBUHB

Our Psychology Network is comprised of qualified Practitioner Psychologists, Clinical Applied Associate Psychologists, Trainee and Assistant Psychologists and Masters and Degree Students on Placement. Practitioner Psychologists are regulated by the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC).

Our Psychological Therapists are staff who have completed at least one year of full time training in a recognised psychological therapy, many are also working towards formal accreditation. They are trained to deliver High and Low Intensity psychological therapy, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), as evidenced in Matrics Cymru and other National guidance.

We have close links with Swansea University Masters Course and offer a rolling programme of placements for students on the course to help build on their CV. A career in psychology is a rewarding occupation but it is competitive and a challenging road to pursue. People often equate psychology & psychological therapy, however these are not equivalent roles.  Practitioner Psychologists spend a lot of their time engaging in assessment, formulation, working with services and teams, teaching, training, and supervising colleagues alongside some provision of psychological therapy. If it is your passion to provide direct psychological therapy for the majority of your role, then please consider the psychological therapy training route which is a rewarding and satisfying career.
