Specialist grade

A new post here in Wales which has recently been successfully launched.

The specialist grade is a very senior autonomous role which sits in between specialty doctors and consultants. To be eligible for this role you will be 12 years’ full time equivalent postgraduate, six of which must be in the relevant specialty.

The specialist will predominantly provide direct patient care and is required to be an expert decision-maker in their area of expertise.

As well as working with multidisciplinary teams and leading MDTs, this grade has the scope to provide development opportunities in management & leadership duties, and to significantly contribute to teaching/training, research, audits, quality improvements and service development.

There is a requirement to demonstrate continued professional development (CPD) and engagement in the job planning process.
