Specialist and advanced pharmacist (AfC Bands 7-8a)
Extended or advanced practice pharmacist roles usually involve specialism into a particular area or scope of practice, e.g. cardiology, neurology, frailty, mental health, oncology, technical services, or a combination of specialities, e.g. joint roles across our hospital and primary care sectors, or with external organisations e.g. Swansea University.
They usually undertake further education to hone their knowledge and skills within the specialism, e.g. prescribing qualification or master’s degrees. They perform the same active duties as an early career pharmacist, but with more experience and focus and are usually responsible for supervising and leading teams within the service. They also actively lead on local guideline development and contribute to national programmes of work.
